I’m so delighted to see you here. Welcome to our Detective world.

I wrote this book when I was just fourteen years old. There is a bit of a story to it so let me tell you what happened.

One Christmas my parents bought me a typewriter and, from the moment I started hitting those keys, I was hooked. Night after night I would tap away and soon the story of Jim started to unfold. I spent every spare moment I could bringing him to life. Once I had finished it my Dad loved it so much that he would tell everyone about it and my Uncle even read it out to a class at his boarding school. But remember, I was just a teenager and I soon forgot about it as other things started to fill up my days.

When my parents died a few years ago I found the original story in my Dads writing desk. He had saved it for nearly forty years. I sat down on the floor and read it from start to finish and it made me laugh (and cry a little) and I knew that I had to share it with the world.

Looking back I can see so much of myself in Jim. He is clumsy but wants to help. He has a big heart but nothing ever seems to go right sometimes. He doesn’t give up though. When my wonderful illustrator Mike and myself brought him to life I could see my Dad in him. His red curly hair and his magnifying glass that Dad was never without. He is part of us both and I am so proud and delighted that he can now be part of your world too.
